4、dosteolytic/osteoblasticspinalmetastases.Mixedvertebralmetastaseswereanalyzedinnuderats21-dayspostintracardiacinjectionofAce-1canineprostatecancercells.Vertebralmicro-architecturewasassessedinmCTimages.Histologicprocessingquantifiedtumorburden(PTHrP),osteoclastactivity(TRAP),andosteoi
5、dformation(Goldner’sTrichrome)in½ofallsamples.Remainingsamplesweremechan-icallytestedtofailureincompression.Metastaticallyinvolvedvertebraeexhibitedextremeosteolysis,evidentthroughanincreaseinosteoclastsleadingtosignificantlyreducedtrabecularbonevolume.Metastaticallyinvolvedvertebraea
6、lsoexhibitedincreasedosteoidcharacteristicofosteoblasticlesions.Whilemechanicalpropertiesintumor-bearingvertebraewerenotsignificantlydecreasedcomparedtocontrols,astrongcorrelationwasfoundbetweentrabecularvolumetricBMDandultimateforce.ThehighlyaggressiveAce-1skeletalmetastasesdemonstra
