4、T:Kyphoticdeformityassociatedwithvertebralfractureisbelievedtobeasignificantriskfactorforadditionalvertebralfractures.However,previouslypublishedre-searchislimited.PURPOSE:Thepurposeofthisstudywastoestimatethebiomechanicalstressesthatkyphoticdeformity,with
5、aninitialvertebralfracture,placeonadjacentvertebraeusingthree-dimensionalfi-niteelement(FE)ofthespine,head,andribs.STUDYDESIGN:Thisstudyisbasedonthebasicscience.METHODS:TotalHumanModelforSafety,athree-dimensionalFEmodelofthehumanbody,wasusedandadjustedtore
6、presentanelderlyosteoporoticwoman.The12ththoracicvertebra(T12),whichisafrequentsiteofosteoporoticvertebralfractures,wastransformedtoawedgeshapeat0,10,and20tocreateanormalmodel,a10kyphosismodel,anda20kyphosismodel.Additionally,compensatedpostureswerec
7、reatedforthe10and20kyphosismodels.Thus,fivemodelswerecreated:(A)anormalmodel,(B)a10kyphosismodel,(C)a20kypho-sismodel,(D)a10kyphosismodelwithcompensatedposture,and(E)a20kyphosismodelwithcompensatedposture.Compressiveprincipalstresses(CPSs)onT1–L5inea
8、chmodelwerecalculated.RESULTS:ThehighestCPSvaluewas7.78MPaplacedontheanteriorpartoftheT10vertebrainthe20kyphosismodel.Inthe20kyphosismodel,thehigherCPSvaluesshowedbimodalpeaksatT6andT7inthemidthoracicspineandatT10
