2、shavebeensuccessfullydevelopedformanyengineeringapplications.Theobjectiveofthisreviewpaperistoassessthepotentialof®beropticsensorsforthemonitoringofconcretestructures.Inthispaper,somecurrentapplicationsof®beropticsensorsinconcretestructuresare®rstreviewedtodemonstrat
3、etheirapplicabilityinconventionalmonitoringapplications.Theadvantagesofopticalsensorsoverelectricalgaugesandtransducersarealsodiscussed.Then,wewillfocusontwonovel®beropticsensorsforthemonitoringofcrackinganddelaminationinconcretestructureswithoutrequiringaprioriknowl
4、edgeofthedamagelocations.Throughthesetwoexamples,itisdemonstratedthattheproperdesignofopticsensorscanprovideusefulsensingcapabilitiesunprecedentedwithconventionalsensors.Withfurtherresearchfocusingonthedevelopmentofnovelsensingconceptsandthereductionofsensorcost,thew
