2、Electric.AfterfinancingthecreationoftheFederalSteelCompanyhemergedtheCarnegieSteelCompanyandseveralothersteelandironbusinessestoformtheUnitedStatesSteelCorporationin1901.HediedinRome,Italy,in1913attheageof75,leavinghisfortuneandbusinesstohisson,JohnPierpont"Jack"Morg
3、an,Jr.,andbequeathinghismansionandlargebookcollectionstotheTheMorganLibrary&MuseuminNewYork.By1901,hewasoneofthewealthiestmenintheworld.AttheheightofMorgan'scareerduringtheearly1900s,heandhispartnershadfinancialinvestmentsinmanylargecorporationsandwasaccusedbycritics

5、ledwithstrongcommitmentstoreligionandtohighculture.EarlyyearsJ.P.Morganinhisearlieryears.Morganwentintobankingin1857athisfather'sLondonbranch,movingtoNewYorkCityin1858whereheworkedatthebankinghouseofDuncan,Sherman&Company,theAmericanrepresentativesofGeorgePeabody&Com
6、pany.From1860to1864,asJ.PierpontMorgan&Company,heactedasagentinNewYorkforhisfather'sfirm.By1864–1872,hewasamemberofthefirmofDabney,Morgan&Company;in1871,hepartneredwiththeDrexelsofPhiladelphiatoformtheNewYorkfirmofDrexel,Morgan&Company.DuringtheearlydaysoftheAmerican
7、CivilWar,U.S.forcesinthefieldcouldnotgetenoughrifles.MorganfinancedthepurchaseandupgradingofoldHallcarbines,whichwerequicklyshippedtotroopsinMissouri.Hisprofitwas$5400,butafterheendedhisrolethecompanythatboughttherifleshadtosuethegovernmentforthemoneyitwasdue;itwonin
