2、Hewasaprolificinventorandwasawarded161U.S.patents.AsowneroftheFordMotorCompany,hebecameoneoftherichestandbest-knownpeopleintheworld.Heiscreditedwith"Fordism",thatis,themassproductionoflargenumbersofinexpensiveautomobilesusingtheassemblyline,coupledwithhighwagesforhisworker
3、s.Fordhadaglobalvision,withconsumerismasthekeytopeace.Forddidnotbelieveinaccountants;heamassedoneoftheworld'slargestfortuneswithouteverhavinghiscompanyauditedunderhisadministration.HenryFord'sintensecommitmenttoloweringcostsresultedinmanytechnicalandbusinessinnovations,inc
4、ludingafranchisesystemthatputadealershipineverycityinNorthAmerica,andinmajorcitiesonsixcontinents.FordleftmostofhisvastwealthtotheFordFoundationbutarrangedforhisfamilytocontrolthecompanypermanently.CareerIn1891,FordbecameanengineerwiththeEdisonIlluminatingCompany.Afterhisp
5、romotiontoChiefEngineerin1893,hehadenoughtimeandmoneytodevoteattentiontohispersonalexperimentsongasolineengines.Theseexperimentsculminatedin1896withthecompletionofaself-propelledvehiclewhichhenamedtheFordQuadricycle.Hetest-droveitonJune4.Aftervarioustest-drives,Fordbrainst
6、ormedwaystoimprovetheQuadricycle.Alsoin1896,FordattendedameetingofEdisonexecutives,wherehewasintroducedtoThomasEdison.EdisonapprovedofFord'sautomobileexperimentation;encouragedbyhim,Forddesignedandbuiltasecondvehicle,completingitin1898.[8]BackedbythecapitalofDetroitlumberb
7、aronWilliamH.Murphy,FordresignedfromEdisonandfoundedtheDetroitAutomobileCompanyonAugust5,1899.However,theautomobilesproducedwereofalowerqualityandhigherpricethanFordliked.Ultimately,thecompanywasnotsuccessfulandwasdissolvedinJanuary1901.WiththehelpofC.HaroldWills,Forddesig
