2、lastheceremonialandpoliticalcenterofChinesegovernment.ThepalacecomplexexemplifiestraditionalChinesepalatialarchitecture,andhasinfluencedculturalandarchitecturaldevelopmentsinEastAsiaandelsewhere.TheForbiddenCitywasdeclaredaWorldHeritageSitein1987,andislistedbyUNESCOasthelargestcollectionofpreserv
3、edancientwoodenstructuresintheworld.2.TheGreatWallTheGreatWallofChinaisaseriesoffortificationsmadeofstone,brick,tampedearth,wood,andothermaterials,generallybuiltalonganeast-to-westlineacrossthehistoricalnorthernbordersofChinainparttoprotecttheChineseEmpireoritsprototypicalstatesagainstintrusionsb
4、yvariousnomadicgroupsormilitaryincursionsbyvariouswarlikepeoplesorforces.Theentirewallwithallofitsbranchesmeasureouttobe21,196km(13,171mi)anditstretchesfromShanhaiguanintheeast,toLopLakeinthewest.Thewallbuiltbetween220–206BCbythefirstEmperorofChina,QinShiHuangandthemajorityoftheexistingwallwasrec
5、onstructedduringtheMingDynasty.OtherpurposesoftheGreatWallhaveincludedbordercontrols,allowingtheimpositionofdutiesongoodstransportedalongtheSilkRoad,regulationorencouragementoftradeandthecontrolofimmigrationandemigration.3.TheSummerPalaceTheSummerPalace,orofficiallyinChinaGardenofNurturedHarmony,
6、isavastensembleoflakes,gardensandpalatialbuildingsinBeijing,China.TheSummerPalaceismainlydominatedbyLongevityHillandtheKunmingLake.Itcoversanexpanseof2.9squarekilometers,three-quartersofwhichiswater.InDecember1998,UNESCOincludedtheSummerPalaceonitsWorldHeritageList.ItdeclaredtheSummerPalace"amast
