3、ecommoncoldtocardiovasclardisease.Basically,I’veturnedstressintotheenemy.ButIhavechangedmymindaboutstress,andtoday,Iwanttochangeyours.Letmestartwiththestudythatmademerethinkmywholeapproachtostress.Thisstudytracked30,000adultsintheUnitedStatesforeightyears,andtheystartedbyaskingpeople

4、,“Howmuchstresshaveyouexperiencedinthelastyear?”Theyalsoasked,“Doyoubelievethatstressisharmfulforyourhealth?”Andthentheyusedpublicdeathrecordstofindoutwhodied.Okay!SomebadnewsfirstPeoplewhoexperiencedalotofstressinthepreviousyearhada43percentincreasedriskofdying.Butthatwasonlytruefor

5、thepeoplewhoalsobelievedthatstressisharmfulforyourhealth.Peoplewhoexperiencedalotofstressbutdidnotviewstressasharmfulwerenomorelikelytodie.Infact,theyhadthelowestriskofdyingofanyoneinthestudyincludingpeoplewhohadrelativelylittlestress.Nowtheresearchersestimatedthatovertheeightyearsth

6、eyweretrackingdeaths182,000Americansdiedprematurely,notfromstress,butfromthebeliefthatstressisbadforyou.Thatisover20,000deathsayear.Now,ifthatestimateiscorrect,thatwouldmakebelievingstressisbadforyouthe15thlargestcauseofdeathintheUnitedStateslastyear,killingmorepeoplethanskincancer,H
