3、men.Andthefoundationsofourfamiliesareweakerbecauseofit.YouandIknowhowtruethisisintheAfrican-Americancommunity.Weknowthatmorethanhalfofallblackchildrenliveinsingle-parenthouseholds,anumberthathasdoubled–doubled–sincewewerechildren.Weknowthestatistics–thatchildrenwhogrowupwithoutafatherarefivet

4、imesmorelikelytoliveinpovertyandcommitcrime;ninetimesmorelikelytodropoutofschoolsandtwentytimesmorelikelytoendupinprison.Theyaremorelikelytohavebehavioralproblems,orrunawayfromhome,orbecometeenageparentsthemselves.Andthefoundationsofourcommunityareweakerbecauseofit.Howmanytimesinthelastyearha

5、sthiscitylostachildatthehandsofanotherchild?Howmanytimeshaveourheartsstoppedinthemiddleofthenightwiththesoundofagunshotorasiren?Howmanyteenagershaveweseenhangingaroundonstreetcornerswhentheyshouldbesittinginaclassroom?Howmanyaresittinginprisonwhentheyshouldbeworking,oratleastlookingforajob?Ho

6、wmanyinthisgenerationarewewillingtolosetopovertyorviolenceoraddiction?Howmany?Yes,weneedmorecopsonthestreet.Yes,weneedfewergunsinthehandsofpeoplewhoshouldn'thavethem.Yes,weneedmoremoneyforourschools,andmoreoutstandingteachersintheclassroom,andmoreafterschoolprogramsforourchildren.Yes,weneedmo
