2、singandsharinginformationstoredindifferentdatabasesthatareinter-linkedbytheinternet.Wepresentaninternet-baseddatabaseapplication,a‘Re-configurableInternetInformationBroker’thatprovides(a)thefunctionalitytodynamicallyconnectandinteractinreal-timewithremotedatabasesviatheinternet;and(b

3、)an‘intelligent’databasenavigationenginebasedonthenotionofdatabasevirtualhierarchies--adatabasenavigationmechanismthatallowsuserstonavigatethedatabasebyenvisagingitasauser-definedhierarchicalstructure.1.IntroductionTheexplosivegrowthofthe“InformationHighway”hasradicallytransformedthe

4、normsofinformationprocessing.Growingnumberofbusinessorganisations,governmentinstitutions,academics,studentsandavarietyofusersarenowembracingtheinformationhighwayasanaptmediumforelectronic,infomation-centeredcommunication.Advancesininternetbasedtechnologieshavegeneratedtremendousoppor

5、tunitiesforinformation-sharingbymakingavailablenotonlyaplethoraofapplications,softwareanddocumentarchives,butalsoprovidingaccesstonumerousinformedpeoplefromvariousdomains.Inthebackgroundofsuchtechnologicaladvances,now,itremainsofinteresttoexplorepossibilitiesfortranspiring‘intelligen

6、ce’totypicalinternet-orientedoperations.Onepossibleareathatdemandsresearchattentionistheextractionofinformationfromremotedatabases,viatheinternet,byutilising‘intelligent’internet-baseddatabasenavigationmechanisms.Indeed,todaytheneedtohaveaccesstoinformationthatisbothcorrectandcomplet
