3、aizi,asalinelakelocatednearthenorthernlimitoftheEastAsiansummermonsooninInnerMongolia.Coarsesedimentsweredepositedthereduringashrinkagephaseofthelakewhensanddunesreactivated.Thesesedimentshaveloworganiccarboncontentsbuthighmaturityindices,indicatingthattheyweredepositedinanaridenviron

4、ment.Bycontrast,basedonhighorganiccontentsandlowmaturityindices,finesedimentsweredepositedduringperiodsofhighlakestandinahumidenvironment.Itwasingeneraldrybetween8.0and4.3kyrBP.Theabovedryandwetphasesareconsistentwiththoserecoveredfromthearid^semiaridtransitionzoneelsewhere,butareunli

5、kethewidelyperceivedhumidHoloceneMegathermalreportedineastChinaandthenewlyreconstructedrecordinthealpineRetreatLakeinTaiwan.Thediscrepancymaybeduetoarelativeinsensitivitytohumiditychangesinthesetwoareassincetheyhavebothbeenunderthetotalinfluenceofthesummermonsoon.Ontheotherhand,muchen

6、hancedevaporationoverhighermonsoonprecipitationatLakeYanhaizireducestheeffectivehumidityinthewarmclimatenearthenorthernboundaryofthesummermonsoon.Thisalsoaccountsforthefactthehigh-temperatureHoloceneMegathermal,asrevealedintheOkinawaTroughandthenorthernSouthChinaSea,iscorrelatedtothed
