2、emented.Grantaidisfinancialassistancethatisextendedtorecipientcountrieswithoutimposinganobligationofrepayment.Loanaidinvolvestheprovisionofloansunderrelaxedconditions(lowinterest,longrepaymentperiod)torecipientcountries.(Theseareinprincipleuntiedloans.)Technicalcoope
3、rationinvolvesthetechnologiesbeingprovidedtorecipientcountriestospreadtheuseoftechnologyamongpeopleindevelopingcountriesandimprovetechnicallevels.PastODAprojectsinChinaincludedlarge-scaleeconomicinfrastructureprojects,includingthebuildingofroads,airportsandpowerstati
4、ons,aswellasinfrastructureprojectsinmedicalandenvironmentalareas.TheseprojectshaveplayedasignificantroleintherealizationofChina'scurrenteconomicgrowth.Forexample,throughJapaneseloanaid(yenloans),atotallengthof5,200kmofrailwaylineswereelectrified,andintheareaofseaport
5、s,approximately60large-sizeberthscapableoftakingshipsinexcessof10,000tonswerebuilt.Inaddition,theChina-JapanFriendshipHospitalthatwasestablishedthroughgrantaidisoneofthemajormedicalinstitutionsintheBeijingmetropolitanarea,treatingapproximately3,000patientseachday.Ass
6、istanceincludesmorethaninfrastructureprojects.IntheareaoftechnicalcooperationtheJapanInternationalCooperationAgency(JICA)hasacceptedtraineesfromChinaforthepurposeofprovidingassistancetocultivateadministrativepersonnel.AsofFY2003JICAhadacceptedacumulativetotalofover15
