2、,a27%reduction.AbenomicsisasetofpolicymeasuresmeanttoresolveJapan'smacroeconomicproblems.Itconsistsof monetarypolicy, fiscalpolicy,and economicgrowthstrategiestoencourageprivate investment.Specificpoliciesinclude inflationtargeting ata2%annualrate,correctionoftheexcessiveyen appreciation
3、,setting negativeinterestrates,radical quantitativeeasing,expansionof publicinvestment, buyingoperations ofconstruction bonds by BankofJapan (BOJ),andrevisionoftheBankofJapanAct. Fiscalspendingwillincreaseby2%of GDP,likelyraisingthedeficitto11.5%ofGDPfor2013. In2012,theNational passedthe
4、billtoincreasetheconsumptiontaxrateto8%in2014and10%in2015 tobalancethenationalbudget,anditisexpectedthatthetaxhikewilldiscourageconsumption.In1997theconsumptiontaxwasincreasedfrom3%to5%,andthendeflationstarted;thenominalGDPgrowthratewasbelowzeroformostofthe5yearsafterthetaxhike.AsofMay20
5、13,ithasachievedthedepreciationoftheyento102yentoadollar,whichwasstagnatingaround80in2012.Also,accordingtoasurveycarriedoutbyNikkeiNewspaperinJapan,74%oftherespondentspraisedthepolicyinalleviatingJapanfromtheprolongedrecession.Intermsofrecenteconomictrends,the unemploymentrate ofJapanhas
6、decreasedfrom4.0%inthefinalquarterof2012to3.7%inthefirstquarterof2013,continuingapasttrend.AbenomicsreferstotheeconomicpoliciesadvocatedbyShinzōAbe,thecurrentPrimeMinisterofJapanwhoassumedofficeon26December2012.It’srefersAbeproposedaseriesofeconomicpolicies,currencydevaluationasthemainbo
