2、useofartificialneuralnetworksinpredictingthefailureloadofcastellatedbeams.47experimentaldatacollectedfromtheliteraturecoverthesimplysupportedbeamswithvariousmodesoffailure,undertheactionofeithercentralsingleload,uniformlydistributedloadortwo-pointloads

3、actingsymmetricallywithrespecttothecenterlineofthespan.Thedataarearrangedinaformatsuchthat8inputparameterscoverthegeometricalandloadingpropertiesofcastellatedbeamsandthecorrespondingoutputistheultimatefailureload.Aback-propagationartificialneuralnetwor

4、kisdevelopedusingNeuro-shellpredictorsoftware,andusedtopredicttheultimateloadcapacityofcastellatedbeams.Themainbenefitinusingneuralnetworkapproachisthatthenetworkisbuiltdirectlyfromtheexperimentalortheoreticaldatausingtheself-organizingcapabilitiesofth

5、eneuralnetwork.ResultsarecomparedwithavailablemethodsintheliteraturesuchtheBlodgett’sMethodandtheBSCode.Itisfoundthattheaverageratioofactualtopredictedfailureloadsofcastellatedwas0.99forneuralnetwork,2.2forBlodgett’sMethod,and1.33forBSCode.Itiscleartha
