3、onWorldWideWeb(WWW).WeclaimthatadaptivityisespeciallyimportantforWWW-basededucationalapplicationswhichareexpectedtobeusedbyverydifferentgroupsofuserswithoutassistanceofahumanteacher.Inthispaperwedescribeanapproachfordevelopingadaptiveelectronictextbooksandpresentanauthoringtoolbas
4、edonthisapproachwhichsimplifiesthedevelopmentofadaptiveelectronictextbooksonWWW.1IntroductionWorldWideWebopensnewwaysoflearningformanypeople.Now,educationalprogramsandlearningmaterialsinstalledandsupportedinoneplacecanbeusedbythousandsofstudentsfromallovertheworld.However,mostofth
5、eexistingeducationalWWWapplicationsusethesimplestsolutionsandaremuchmorelimitedthanexisting'on-site'educationalsystemsandtools.Formanydesigners,anidealformatofeducationalWWWmaterialseemstobeastaticelectroniccopyofaregulartextbook:chapterbychapter,pagebypage,picturebypicture.Suchel
6、ectronictextbooksarenon-adaptive,i.e.,studentswithdifferentabilities,knowledge,andbackgroundgetthesameeducationalmaterialinthesameform.WeclaimthatadaptivityisespeciallyimportantforeducationalprogramsonWWWwhichareexpectedtobeusedbyverydifferentclassesofuserswithoutassistanceofareal
