3、eirsupplierswhenitcomestoimprovingduedateperformance,reducingcostsorincreasingqualityandwillputapremiumontheabilityofmanagerstograspthefullcomplexityofthesupplychainenvironmentinwhichtheircompaniesoperate.Currentsupplychainanalysistechniquesandtoolsoftenproveinadequateint
4、hisregard,duetomodelinglimitations(e.g.xedleadtimes,inabilitytoaccountfornitecapacities,steadystateassumptions,omissionofimportantcosts),aninabilitytotakeadvantageofopportunitiesprovidedbyElectronicDataInterchange(EDI)technologyandalackofsupportforoperationalizingrecent
5、manufacturingphilosophies(e.g.LeanProduction",TQMandJIT).Thispaperreviewsimportantresearchissuesinsupplychainmanagementandpresentsinitialworktowardsthedevelopmentofdecisionsupporttoolsforanalysisofsupplychaindynamics.Ourapproachreliesonthedevelopmentofanextensiblemulti-a
6、gentsimulationtestbedinwhichawiderangeofsupplychainproblemscanbequicklyandaccuratelymodeled,andalternativesolutionstotheseproblemscanbecomparedviasimulation.Wesummarizeinitialresultsobtainedwithanearlyprototypethatindicatesomeperformanceeectsofdierentinformationsharingp
