5、rimarilyconcernedwithaddress-19ingperceivedmethodologicalweaknessesinearlyworkincognitivelexicalsemantics,20asexemplifiedbytheworkofBrugmanandLakoff(Brugman[1981]1988;Brugman21andLakoff1988;Lakoff1987).Inparticular,itisbecomingclearthatTylerandI,in22ourworkonPrincip
6、ledPolysemy,may,infact,haveunderestimatedthefunctional23complexitythat‘spatial’prepositionalsense-unitsprovideaccessto.24Accordingly,thegoalofthispaperistopresentamorerecenttheoryoflexical25representationwhichbuildsonandrefinestheframeworkofPrincipledPolysemy.This26
