2、05.AbstractDeployingIPtelephonyorvoiceoverIP(VoIP)isamajorandchallengingtaskfordatanetworkresearchersanddesigners.Thispaperoutlinesguidelinesandastep-by-stepmethodologyonhowVoIPcanbedeployedsuccessfully.Themethodologycanbeusedtoassessthesupportandreadinessofanexistingnetwork.Pr
3、iortothepurchaseanddeploymentofVoIPequipment,themethodologypredictsthenumberofVoIPcallsthatcanbesustainedbyanexistingnetworkwhilesatisfyingQoSrequirementsofallnetworkservicesandleavingadequatecapacityforfuturegrowth.Asacasestudy,weapplythemethodologystepsonatypicalnetworkofasma
4、llenterprise.Weutilizebothanalysisandsimulationtoinvestigatethroughputanddelaybounds.Ouranalysisisbasedonqueuingtheory,andOPNETisusedforsimulation.Resultsobtainedfromanalysisandsimulationareinlineandgiveaclosematch.Inaddition,thepaperdiscussesmanydesignandengineeringissues.Thes
