2、. Availableonline1July2005.AbstractDeployingIPtelephonyorvoiceoverIP(VoIP)isamajorandchallengingtaskfordatanetworkresearchersanddesigners.Thispaperoutlinesguidelinesandastep-by-stepmethodologyonhowVoIPcanbedeployedsuccessfully.Themethodologycanbeusedtoas
3、sessthesupportandreadinessofanexistingnetwork.PriortothepurchaseanddeploymentofVoIPequipment,themethodologypredictsthenumberofVoIPcallsthatcanbesustainedbyanexistingnetworkwhilesatisfyingQoSrequirementsofallnetworkservicesandleavingadequatecapacityforfut
4、uregrowth.Asacasestudy,weapplythemethodologystepsonatypicalnetworkofasmallenterprise.Weutilizebothanalysisandsimulationtoinvestigatethroughputanddelaybounds.Ouranalysisisbasedonqueuingtheory,andOPNETisusedforsimulation.Resultsobtainedfromanalysisandsimul
