2、,andmicrostructureusingtheresultsofnondestructivetestingmethods,i.e.,ultrasonicpulsevelocityUPVandimageanalysis.Researchersandengineersusuallyuseresultsofstandardlaboratoryproceduresinordertoobtainmechanicalpropertiesofamaterial.Thatprocessislongandit
3、requireslargenumberofsamples,i.e.,alotoftimeandlotofmaterial.ImageProPlusIPPandUPVaremethodswhichcanprovideequallyaccurateresults.Thesemethodsaremuchmoresimple,rapid,andcheaper.Nondestructivetestmethodswereappliedonthecorundumandbauxitebasedrefractory
4、concretes.Investigatedconcretesarevaryinginchemicalandmineralogicalcomposition.Mechanicalcompressivestrengthofconcretesamplesafterthermaltreatmentatvarioustemperatures110,800,1,000,1,300,and1,500°Cwasinvestigatedusingstandardlaboratoryprocedureandafte
5、rwardwithUPVtechnique.Lossofstrengthanddegradationoccurswhenrefractoryconcretesampleissubjectedtoincreasedtemperatureandcompressiveload;therefore,measurementofmechani-calpropertiescanindicateandmonitorthechangesinthemicrostructure.Levelofsurfacedeterior
6、ationafterthermaltreatmentwasdeterminedusingopticalmicroscopeandIPP.Nondestructiveultrasonicmeasurementwasalsousedasameansofmonitoringofincreasingporosityinrefractoryspecimens.UPVtechniqueandimageanalysisarereliablenondestructivemethodsforcharacterizati
