2、ecouplingstomatterandradiation,extremelysensitivesearchesareunderwayaroundtheworld.BesidessolvingthestrongCPprobleminQCD,thediscoveryofaxionsmaybeverymeaningfulltothequantumfieldtheories,particlephysicsandcosmology.Wereviewtheoriginandmodelsoftheaxion,aswellasthestateofexperimentssearchingforitthro

3、ughitscouplingtophotonsandprotons.Andwehavededucedtherelationshipbetweenthecouplingsofaxiontoprotonsandtophotonsafterrenormalizationbyworkingwithintheframeworkofperturbationtheory.ThenwegetthemasslimitsofaxionfromthetorsionbalanceexperimentswhichdevotedtotesttheWeakEquivalencePrinciple(WEP)andtheGr

4、avitationalInverseSquareLaw(ISL)aftertransformation.Maxwellclassicalelectromagnetictheoryandthespecialtheoryofrelativity，quantumelectrodynamicsconstitutethefundamentalframesoftheelectromagneticinteractionswhichtransformedbyphotons.Oneofthemajorcontributionsofthemisthattheydefinedthespeedofelectroma

5、gneticwaveinvacuumastheconstantspeedoflightc，whichimpliesahypothesisthatthephotonrestmassmustbezeroexactly.Butwhetherthisrestmassiszeroornot,isstilloneofthefundamentalproblemsconfrontedbymanyphysicists.Allexperimentswhichdevotedtotesttherestmassofphotonwereonlyobtainedtheupperconstrainsonituptonow.

6、Anyconclusiveevidenceofafiniterestmassforthephotonwillbringgreatinfluenceondevelopmentofthewholephysics.So,wehaveexploredtheeffectsofnonzerophotonrestmassinthehigh-precisionexperimentwhichdevotedtosearchfortheaxionsbyusingthelaserbeamtravelingthroughastrongmagneticfieldbasedonthemassiveelectromagne

7、ticfieldtheory.Thenwecomparedtheresultswhichimpliedbythisexperimentwiththelimitsofphotonrestmasspresentedbyusingmodulatedtorsionbalanceinourlaboratoryin2003.wefoundthattheeffectsofnonzerophotonrestmassinthi
