4、omicanalysisoflaw.Iwilloffersomeremarksonhowthesetwosubjectsrelatetoeachother.1.LegalAnthropologyLegalanthropologyisasmallsubjectthatistaughtinafewuniversities,especiallyinAmerica(KuppeandPotz,1994).IrecentlyaskedteachersoflawandanthropologyatmajorAmericanuniversitiestosendme
5、thereadinglistsfortheirclasses.Thereadingswere‘alloverthemap’bothliterallyandfiguratively.Thestruggleinanthropologyoverthesubject’sidentityhasinfectedlawandanthropology.Somestrandsinmodernanthropology,suchassymbolicanthropology(Geertz,1983),havenoapparentrelationshiptotheecon
6、omicanalysisoflaw.Others,suchaseconomicanthropology(Dalton,1967;Plattner,1989)andanthropologicalmaterialism(Harris,1968),haveamodestrelationshiptotheeconomicanalysisoflaw.Ingeneral,theanalyticaltechniquesusedintheeconomicanalysisoflawarenotunderstoodorappreciatedbyanthropolog
