5、sdeclineincollectivebargainingoverpaysincethe1970s,thesearealsonowmorecommonlyamatterformanagementdecision.Thismajorshiftintheinstitutionalstructuresthroughwhichpayandotheremploymentconditionsaredeterminedraisesanumberofquestionsthatresearchcanusefullyaddress.Inthepast,muchworkfocus
6、eduponthesizeofthe‘unionwagepremium’,butincurrentcircumstancesitseemsmorerelevanttolookmorebroadlyatthestructuresandprocessesbywhichemployerssetthepayandotherconditionsoftheiremployees.Itmaybethattradeunionsstillhaveanimportantrolefortheminorityofemployeesthattheyrepresent.Orperhaps
