2、rsandinorganicfillers,thoughsilanecouplingagentscanalsobeusefulwithotherkindsoffillersandpolymers.Smallamountsofsilanecouplingagents,usedataninterface,cangreatlyimprovethemechanicalpropertiesofcompositema-terials.Theymayalsobeusedonformedpartsascoatingstoalterthesurfacepropert
3、iesofmaterials,orcopolymerizedintoorganicpolymers.Silanecouplingagentsarefoundinabroadrangeofapplicationsasvariedasmetalcoatings,dentalmaterials,andcontactlenses.Thepresentarticleisfocusedprimarilyontheiruseinpolymercomposites,wheretheyareusedasinterfacialmodifiers.Intheirmos
4、tcommonform,polymer-reinforcedcompositematerialsconsistofanorganicmatrixandinorganicfiller(herethetermfillerwillbeusedinagen-eralsense,andcanincludereinforcingfibers).Thepolymertypicallyformsthecontinuousphasethatprotectsthefillerfromenvironmentaldamageandholdsthecompositetogeth
