3、ngesintranscriptionalregulation,geneexpressionisregulatedatmanylevels,allofwhichmustultimatelybestudiedtogethertoobtainacompletepictureoftheevolutionofgeneexpression.Herewecomparetheevolutionoftranscriptionalregulationandpost-transcriptionalregulationthatismediate
4、dbymicroRNAs,alargeclassofsmall,non-codingRNAsinplantsandanimals,focusingontheevolutionoftheindividualregulatorsandtheirbindingsites.Asaninitialsteptowardsintegratingthesemechanismsintoaunifiedframework,weproposeasimplemodelthatdescribesthetranscriptionalregulatio
5、nofnewmicroRNAgenes.Theemergenceofcomplex,multicellularorganismsprimacyoftranscriptionasthenecessaryfirststepinwasaccompanied,andperhapsfacilitated,bydramaticgeneexpressionisundeniable,thisdoesnotimplythatincreasesinthecomplexityofgeneregulatorymecha-transcription
