5、ström1989,Dunning/Narula1996,Kokkoetal.1996,Aitkenetal.1997).Theseeffectscanbeattributedtospilloversfromaffiliatesofforeignmultinationalenterprises(MNEs)todomesticfirmsofassets,technologyandcapabilitiesthataccompanyinwardFDI(Dunning1993).However,manystudies,particularlythoseun
6、dertakenindevelopingortransitionalcountrycontexts,suggestthatinwardFDIdoesnotnecessarilyresultinbeneficialspillovers(e.g.Aitken/Harrison1999,Bosco2001,Günther2005).Thisfindinghasbeenattributedtothelimitednumberand/orintensityoflinkagesformedbydifferenttypesofforeignaffiliatesi
7、ndifferenthosteconomycontexts(McIntyreetal.1996).Therefore,understandingtherelationshipbetweenthenatureoftheaffiliateandthenatureoflinkagesisimportantforunderstandinghowFDIfunctionstobenefitthehosteconomy.Thisisthefocusofthispaper.Areviewoftheextantliteraturerevealsseverallimi
