2、ementsystem.ThemainobjectiveofCeilidhistosupportteachingandlearningthroughcomputer.Asacoursemanagementsystem,italsoprovidessomefacilitiesforthecourseteachertoorganisetheteachingandtomonitortheprogressofthestudentsattendingthecourse.Historically,Ceilidhwasdesignedforteach
3、ingandlearningofprogrammingthroughcomputer1.ThemainmotivationforCeilidhwastosolvetheproblemofteachingalargeprogrammingclass.Ithaslongbeenrealisedthatprogrammingcannotbelearnedwithoutextensivehands-onexperience.Itisalsoneces-sarythatallprogramswrittenbystudentsshouldbemar
4、kedandcheckedbytheteacher,andthefeedbackshouldbegiventothestudentassoonaspossible.However,handlingandmarking150or200studentpro-gramseveryweekisimpossibletoperformquicklyandfairlybyhand.Ceilidhallowsstudentstodeveloptheirprogramsontheterminal,andeachprogramwillbemarkedaut
