3、ns.IndoingsotheymakeuseofapowerfulsoftwaretoolcalledLEIS*-PLAN.WearedevelopinganextensiontoPLANcalledPLANDocthatwillautomaticallygeneratenaturallanguagenarrativesdocumentingtheengineers'useofPLAN.Inthispaper,wepresenttheuser-needsanalysisanddesignmethodologywehaveused
4、indevelopingthePLANDocsystem.Wedescribeourinterviewswithvariousenduserstodetermineifsuchasystemwouldbedesirableandwhatdesignfactorswouldmakeituseful.Weshowhowwemodelthesystemonasetofiteratively-revisedhuman-generatednarratives.Themodelnarrativesdeterminethefunctionanda
5、rchitectureofthedocumenta-tionsystem,andtheyinformthedevelopmentofthesystemcomponents.1.IntroductionUser-needsanalysishasbecomeacommonpracticeinthedevelopmentofcomputer-humaninterfacesystemsandotherend-usersoftware.Nielsen1993a,Landauer1993aHowever,AIsystemsarefrequent
