3、deocoding”)technologyfromcirca.1995.Thegroupsresponsibleforthesestandards,theMotionPictureExpertsGroupandtheVideoCodingExpertsGroup(MPEGandVCEG)areinthefinalstagesofdevelopinganewstandardthatpromisestosignificantlyoutperformMPEG4andH.263,providingbettercompressionofvi
4、deoimagestogetherwitharangeoffeaturessupportinghigh-quality,low-bitratestreamingvideo.Thehistoryofthenewstandard,“AdvancedVideoCoding”(AVC),goesbackatleast7years.AfterfinalisingtheoriginalH.263standardforvideotelephonyin1995,theITU-TVideoCodingExpertsGroup(VCEG)starte
5、dworkontwofurtherdevelopmentareas:a“short-term”efforttoaddextrafeaturestoH.263(resultinginVersion2ofthestandard)anda“long-term”efforttodevelopanewstandardforlowbitratevisualcommunications.Thelong-termeffortledtothedraft“H.26L”standard,offeringsignificantlybettervideoc
6、ompressionefficiencythanpreviousITU-Tstandards.In2001,theISOMotionPictureExpertsGroup(MPEG)recognisedthepotentialbenefitsofH.26LandtheJointVideoTeam(JVT)wasformed,includingexpertsfromMPEGandVCEG.JVT’smaintaskistodevelopthedraftH.26L“model”intoafullInternationalStandar
