3、ointoutthattheproportionofnon-agriculturalpopulationcouldnotfullyreflectthelevelofurbanization.Therefore,itisnecessarytoconsiderhowtorationallyevaluatethecurrentstateofurbanization.Afterreviewingthedefinitionsoftheurbanization,theauthorsbelievethatthelevelofurbanizationinChinacanbemeasuredbypo
4、pulationurbanizationandlandurbanizationofwhichtheycon-ductresearchonthecoordinatedevelopment.Throughtime-seriescalculations,theauthorsfindthatthein-dexesofbothpopulationurbanizationlevelandlandurbanizationlevelfromthe1995to2007areinatrendofcontinuingupward,andduringthisperiod,thecoordinationle
5、velofthemisalsogradualincreasing,thegrowthrateoflandurbanizationindexbecamefasterthaneverbefore,andin2007landurbanizationindexhassurpassedpopulationurbanizationindex.Fromtheviewofthespatialpattern,thedistributionofpopula-tionurbanizationindexinChinaisconsistentwiththebasicpatternofeconomicdeve
6、lopment.TheprovinceswhicharerankedinthefirstthreelevelsmainlylocatedineasternChinawherethesocio-economicdevelop-mentisatthehighlevel,andtheprovinceswhicharerankedinthefourthlevelorthefifthlevelaremainlylocatedincentralandwesternChinawheretheeconomicandindustriallevelisrelativelylow,andpeople's
7、livingstandardneedtobeimproved.ThedistributionoflandurbanizationindexinChinaisquitedifferentwiththebasicpatternofeconomicdevelopment,whichisaffectedbytheinvestmentinlandfromlocalgov-ernment.Thespatialpatternofcoordinatedevelopmentbetwee
