3、sition/productionofmusicbygroupsofgeographicallydispersedcommunitiesofusers,bothinsynchronousandasynchronousmodes.Itispresentedanoverviewoftheconceptsanddevelopmentsin:TheFMOLprojectthatapproachescollaborativemusiccompositionandperformanceoverthewebinanasynchronousfashioninitsoriginalversion
4、(Jordá,1998,1999),andthatiscurrentlyunderdevelopmentevolvingtoanewarchitecturewithasynchronousparadigmandseveralrelevantnewfeatures(JordàandWüst,2001);ThePublicSoundObjectproject,whichconsistsonapermanentwebinstallationforcollaborativemusicalperformance,currentlyatpreliminarydevelopmentstage
5、(BarbosaandKaltenbruner,2001).implementedusingtheTransisgroupcommunication1.IntroductionmulticastcommunicationlayerforCSCWapplications.However,morethantwentyyearsafterthefirstexperiments,collectivemusiccompositionorimprovisationComputer-SupportedCooperativeWork(CSCW)isoneonthenet,isstillatab
6、ourgeoningstateandsitesandofthemajorresearchfieldsinmodernsociety,andtheprojectslikeResRocketSurfer,MIT'sBrainOpera,currenttechnologicaladvances,speciallyinInternetWilliamDuckworth'sInternetbasedCathedral,cancomputing,haveallowedcomputerscienceresearchersandprobablystillbecountedwiththefinge
