2、spondtofeedbackaboutthequalityoftheirtransmissions.Wehavebuiltafeedbackcontrolledmultimediatransmissionsystem,andwehavetestedandanalysedtheinfluenceofvariousfactorsontransmissionperformance.Thispaperpresentstheresultsofsomeofthesetests,andsuggestssomesolutionsforimprovingthequalityofmultimediatran

3、smissionsundernetworkcongestion.1.IntroductionReal-timestreamingofmultimediacontentoverInternetProtocol(IP)networkshasbecomeverypopularinrecentyears.Interactiveandnon-interactivemultimediaapplicationssuchasmultimediaon-demand,livevideoandaudiotransmissions,andvideoconferencingrelyondifferentstream

4、ingsolutions.Theypermitremotereal-timedelivery,decoding,andpresentationofmultimediacontent,regardlessoftrafficconditions.Wehavebuiltanobject-orientedfeedbackcontrolledclient-serversystemformultimediatransmissionsinordertostudypossibleimprovementstothecurrentstreamingapproaches.Toanalysetheperforma

5、nceofoursystemwetakeintoconsiderationsomekeyparameterssuchasavailablebandwidth,end-to-enddelay,delayvariation(jitter),andpacketlossrate.Wealsoconsidertheimpactonsystemperformanceofthefeedbackcontrol,becausetheclientregularlysendsinformationbacktotheserver,increasingboththenetworktrafficandtheneces

6、sarybandwidth.Thispaperanalysessomeexperimentalresultsshowingtheinfluenceoftheseparametersontheperformanceofthesystem.Itisshownthattheeffectoflosingalargerpacketismoreimportantforthetransmittedstreamthanifasmallerpacketislost.Thetransmissionfrequencyisshowntobeanimportantfactoraffectingthequalityo
