2、initialAmultimediaserverdeliverspresentations(e.g.,videos,latencyisthetimebetweenthearrivalofanewrequestandmovies,games),providinghighbandwidthandcontinuousthetimewhenits®rstdatasegmentbecomesavailableinreal-timedelivery.Inthispaperwepresenttechniquesfortheserver'smemory.Trad
3、itionally,initiallatencyhasnotreducingtheinitiallatencyofpresentations,i.e.,forreduc-receivedmuchattention.Webelievethatthisisbecauseingthetimebetweenthearrivalofarequestandthestartonemajorapplicationofmultimediaserversisªmoviesonofthepresentation.Traditionally,initiallatency
4、hasnotdemandºwhereadelayofafewminutesbeforeanewreceivedmuchattention.Thisisbecauseonemajorappli-multi-hourmoviestartsisacceptable.Indeed,someofthecationofmultimediaserversisªmoviesondemandºwhereproposedserverseitherignorethelatencyissueentirely[5]adelayofafewminutesbeforeanew
5、multi-hourmoviestarts[9]oracknowledgehavinginitiallatenciesontheorderofisacceptable.However,latencyreductionisimportantinminutes[7].interactiveapplicationssuchasvideogamesandbrows-However,webelievethatthereareimportantapplica-ingofmultimediadocuments.Variouslatencyreductionti
6、onswherehighlatenciesarenotacceptable.Forexample,schemesareproposedandanalyzed,andtheirperformanceconsideravideogamewhereateachsteptheplayer'sac-compared.Weshowthatourtechniquescansigni®cantlyre-tionsdeterminewhatshortvideotoplaynext.Hereweduce(almosteliminateinsomecases)init
7、iallatencywithoutclearlydonotwanttheplayertowaitasigni®cantamountadverselyaffectingthroughput.Moreover,anovelon-diskoftimebeforeeachvideoscenestarts.Wecouldtrytopre-partialdatareplicationschemethatweproposeprovestofetchallthepossiblevideosthatmightbeselected,butthisbefarmorec
