4、erveranditsdesignmotivations.Itshowsthatemula-tionlibrariesareagoodwayofstructuringsystemssoftware.Problemsidenti edwithearlieremulatorsarenotinherenttotheideabutrathertotheimplementations.Litesprovidesacompletelynewemulationlibrary.Itprovidespersonalityviewtoapplica-tions,loadsappli
5、cationbinariesandlibraries,andallowsquickextendibilityandnewwaysofimplementingservices.TheLitesserverisaneventdrivenmultithreadedsingleserverfeaturinggarbagecol-lectedobjects,handlingofmultipleconcurrentsystemcallsfromanyprocess,pagingtoandfrom les,andextremelyfewmachinedependencies.
6、Theresultingsystemprovidesahealthybaseforevolutionaryunixdevelopmentwitheasydebugging,added
exibility,andahighdegreeofcodereusability.Theresultingsystemisfastandstableenoughforrealuse.Yetmanyimprovementscanbemadeandmanytargetsforfuturedevelopmentarehighlightedinthispaper.Thesystemisl
