3、dactivityrecognition,orvision-basednavigationandmanipulation.Thispaperreviewssomefunctionalprinciplesandstructuresthataregenerallythoughttounderlietheprimatevisualcortex,andattemptstoextractbiologicalprinciplesthatcouldfurtheradvancecomputervisionresearch.
4、Organizedforacomputervisionaudience,wepresentfunctionalprinciplesoftheprocessinghierarchiespresentintheprimatevisualsystemconsideringrecentdiscoveriesinneurophysiology.Thehierarchicalprocessingintheprimatevisualsystemischaracterizedbyasequenceofdifferentle
5、velsofprocessing(ontheorderof10)thatconstituteadeephierarchyincontrasttotheflatvisionarchitecturespredominantlyusedintodaysmainstreamcomputervision.Wehopethatthefunctionaldescriptionofthedeephierarchiesrealizedintheprimatevisualsystemprovidesvaluableinsigh
