4、erationandespeciallybyrecycling.However,thelandfillingoptionisoftenapproachedunjustlyinKeywords:thesestudies,maybedisregardingtheremarkabletechnologicalimprovementsthatlandfillshaveundergoneinthelastdecadesinmanypartsoftheworld.IndividualwastefractionsThisLandfillingstudy,bymeansofL
5、CA-modelling,aimsatcomparingtheenvironmentalperformanceofthreemajormanagementoptions(landfilling,recyclingandincinerationorcomposting)foranumberofindi-RecyclingvidualIncinerationwastefractions.Thelandfillingoptionishereapproachedcomprehensively,accountingforallCompostingtechnicalan
6、denvironmentalfactorsinvolved,includingenergygenerationfromlandfillgasandstorageofbiogeniccarbon.LeachateandgasemissionsassociatedtoeachindividualwastefractionhavebeenLife-cycleimpactassessmentEnergyrecoveryestimatedbymeansofamathematicalmodelling.Thisapproachtowardslandfillingemis
7、sionsallowsforEnvironmentalperformanceamoreprecisequantificationofthelandfillimpactswhencomparingmanagementoptionsforselectedwastefractions.Resultsfromthelife-cycleimpactassessment(LCIA)showthattheenvironmentalperformanceesti-matedforlandfillingwithenergyrecoveryofthefractions“organ
