3、recurringpatternsofattacks.Wepresentanewtechnique,calledbackscatteranalysis",thatprovidesaconservativeestimateofworldwidedenial-of-serviceactivity.Weusethisapproachon22traces(eachcoveringaweekormore)gatheredoverthreeyearsfrom2001through2004.Acrossthiscorpusweq
4、uantitativelyassessthenumber,durationandfocusofattacks,andqualitativelycharacterizetheirbehavior.Intotal,weobservedover68,000attacksdirectedatover34,000distinctvictimIPaddresses{rangingfromwell-knowne-commercecompaniessuchasAmazonandHotmailtosmallforeignISPsand
