2、y,Tokyo,JapanSUMMARYUsingtheNationalLongitudinalSurveyofYouth1979,weexploretherelationshipbetweenbodymassandwages.Weusequantileregressiontoprovideabroaddescriptionoftherelationshipacrossthewagedistribution.Wealsoallowtherelationshiptovarybythedegreeofsocialskillsinvolvedindifferentjobs.Ourres
3、ultsfindthatforfemaleworkersbodymassandwagesarenegativelycorrelatedatallpointsintheirwagedistribution.Thestrengthoftherelationshipislargerathigher-wagelevels.Formaleworkers,therelationshipisrelativelyconstantacrosswagedistributionbutheterogeneousacrossethnicgroups.Whencontrollingfortheendogene
4、ityofbodymass,wefindthatadditionalbodymasshasanegativecausalimpactonthewagesofwhitefemalesearningmorethanthemedianwagesandofwhitemalesaroundthemedianwages.Amongtheseworkers,thewagepenaltiesarelargerforthoseemployedinjobsthatrequireextensivesocialskills.Thesefindingsmaysuggestthatlabormarketsrew
