2、withdepthofindividualwordknowledgedeterminingagivenword’sdegreeofintegrationintothementallexicon.Thepaperbe-ginsbyreviewingthebodyofevidencerelevanttotheresearchquestion,andthenpresentsthedesignandresultsofaninvestiga-tioncomparingnonnativeandnativespeakerpatternsofresp
3、onsesinlightofdepthofwordknowledgescores.Indiscussingtheresultsofthestudy,atentativemodelfortheprocessbywhichwordsareintegratedintothementallexiconisproposed,andthelong-standingbeliefthatashiftfrompredominantlysyntagmatictopredominantlyparadigmaticresponsesisindicativeo
4、flexicaldevelopmentischal-lenged.Althoughresearchershavehistoricallybeencautiousintheirattemptstode-viseanydefinitivemodelforthestructureoftheL2mentallexicon,theresultsofL2studiesinthisareahavegenerallysupportedthenotionthatitisinmanywaysfundamentallydifferentfromthatof
