3、tsofelementary,secondaryandhighereducation.Elementaryandsecondaryeducationisfreeandcompulsory.Someschoolscollegesanduniversitiesarepublicandothersareprivate.DiversityisconsideredtobeanoutstandingcharacteristicofAmericaneducation.Aseachstatehasthefreedomtodevelopasextensiveorlimitedaschoolsystem
4、asitdesires,anddelegateitspowerovereducationtolocaldistrictstotheextentitwishes,manyvariationscanbefoundintheeducationsystemofthe50states.ThePrincipalFunctionsofInstitutionofHigherEducationinAmericanEducationThesystemofhighereducationhasthreeprincipalfunctions:teaching,researchandpublicservice.
