2、eforHealthOutcomes,Policy,andE6aluationStudies,TheOhioStateUni6ersity,Columbus,OH,USASUMMARYThisarticlecomparestwomeasurementstrategiesformeasuringEuroQolhealthstatepreferences:(a)conditionalpreferencemodelling,implementedusingratingscaleandstandardgamblescalingmethodsand(b
3、)discretechoiceconjointmodelling.ThenatureofthemodelformoftheEuroQolhealthstatuspreferencefunctionandthepredictiveabilityofeachmeasurementstrategyformedthebasisofthecomparison.Datawerecollectedviapersonalinterviewswith140USpatients,139ofwhomprovidedusableresponses.Bothstrat
4、egiessupportedamultiplicativemodelformasrepresentativeoftheEuroQolhealthstatuspreferencefunctionandwereacceptableintermsofpredictiveability.Theagreementofthetwomeasurementstrategiesonthenatureofthemodelformprovidesevidenceoftheconvergentvalidityofthemultiplicativenatureofth
5、eEuroQolhealthstatuspreferencefunctioninthispatientpopulation.Sincebothstrategieswerefoundtobeacceptableintermsofpredictiveability,furtherresearchcomparingpreferencescoresandmeasuringrespondentevaluationsofthemethodologiesisnecessarytoillustratetherelativestrengthsandweakne
