2、g,195251,RussiaAbstractThephysico-chemicalmodificationsofpolypropylene(PP)andpolyethylene(PE)inducedbyIMeV/uXeionswerestudied.Theirradiatedsampleswereinvestigatedexsitubymeansofultraviolet(UV)spectroscopy,solubilitymeasure-mentsandgelpermeationchromatography(GPC).Theformationofdoublebonds,di

3、enesandtrieneswasobservedbothinPEandPP.TheefficiencyofthegenerationofunsaturatedchemicalbondswasfoundtodependonsmallamountsofaromaticadditivesinPP.Similarly,thetracketchrateinPPincreaseswithincreasingconcentrationofantioxidantmolecules.Roughestimatesofradiolyticyieldsofdifferentstructureswer

4、ecarriedoutonthebasisoftheUVandGPCmeasurements.Itisapparentthattherearetwobasicallydifferentprocessesinducedbyswiftheavyionspassingthroughthepolyolefin:(a)localintratrackreactions;(b)reactionsinducedbyactivespeciesleavingthetracksanddiffusingintosurroundingmatrix.Theformerprocessleadstothefo

5、rmationofetchabledamage.Thelatteronemaycauseamutualinfluenceoftracksevenatfairlylowionfluences.1.IntroductionasIPPlandIPP?isotacticpolypropylenefilmofUSSRproduction,IPP3;andahighdensitypolyethylenefilmTechnicallyusedpolymericfilmsoftenserveastrackwiththethicknessof12pm.Accordingtoultraviolet
