3、aborativebiomedicalresearchtoadvancescienceandexpandbiomedicalknowledge. ScientificcooperationbetweentheU.S.andthePeople’sRepublicofChinawasinitiatedover30yearsagoandhasgrownrapidlyinrecentyears. RecognizingthatenhancedcooperativebiomedicalresearchwouldbeofmutualbenefittotheU.
4、S.andChina,theNIHDirectorandthePresidentoftheNationalNaturalScienceFoundationofChina(NSFC)signedaMemorandumofUnderstanding(MOU)inOctober,2010.NIHandNSFCfurthersignedanImplementingArrangement(IA)inDecember2010todevelopanewU.S.-ChinaProgramforBiomedicalResearchCooperation.AJoint
5、WorkingGroup(JWG),madeupofaspecifiednumberofmembersfrombothNIHandNSFC,wasassembledtodevelopstrategicplansforcollaborationsandtofacilitatetheexpeditedreviewsandclearancesofproposedbilateralprojects.BoththeNIHandNSFChaveallocatedfundstosupportjointactivitiespursuedunderthisprogr
6、am.ThisCallforProposalsannouncesanopportunityforNIHintramuralscientiststorequestfundingtodevelopnewcollaborationsorexpandongoingresearcheffortswithChinesescientistsundertheU.S.-ChinaProgramforBiomedicalResearchCooperation.Proposalsthatincludeashort-termscientistexchangeareacce
7、ptable.Basedonthemeritoftherequestsreceivedandtheavailabilityoffunds,theNIHmayawardupto$500,000peryearfromFY2014-2016tointramuralscientistsforthiseffort,andtheNSFChaspledgedtoprovidecomplementaryfundingtosupporttheChinesecollaboratinginvestigatorsinvolvedintheresearchcollabora
