1、ThinLayerChromatographyofAnalgesicsIntroduction:Over-the-counteranalgesicstypicallycontainoneormoreofthefollowingactiveingredients:acetaminophen,aspirin,caffeine,ibuprofen,phenacetin,orsalicylamide.Thinlayerchromatography(TLC)offersasimplemethodofanal

2、ysisfortheseproducts.Chromatographyisatermthatiswidelyusedtodescribeafamilyofcloselyrelatedseparationmethods.Therearemanyseparationmethods,butthefeaturethatdistinguisheschromatographyfromotherphysicalandchemicalmethodsofseparationisthatbothastationary

3、andmobilephase,whichareincapableofbeingmixed,comeintocontactandthesampletobeseparatedinteractsnumeroustimeswiththesephases.Thesampleiscarriedthroughthesystemviathemobilephase,andtheinteractionsthatoccurareduetothedifferencesinthephysicalandchemicalpro

4、pertiesthatgoverntherateatwhichtheindividualcomponentsofthesamplepassoverthestationaryphaseundertheinfluenceofthemobilephase.Thinlayerchromatography(TLC)isonetypeofchromatographywherethestationaryphaseisathinlayerofadsorbentparticlesattachedtothesolid

5、plate.Asmallamountofsampleisapplied(spotted)nearthebottomoftheplate,andtheplateisplacedinthemobilephase.Thissolventisdrawnupbycapillaryactiontoapredeterminedheight.Separationoccursbecauseeachcomponentinteractsdifferentlywiththemobilephase.Eachcomponen
