2、ghumanhealth-relatedproblemsglobally,withintheUnitedStates,andinConnecticut.Emphasiswillbeonhistoryofmedicalanthropologywithinthebroadercontextofappliedanthropology,theoreticalmodelsanddebates,anthropologicalapproachestounderstandinghealth,challenges
3、ofapplication,anthropologyandhealthpolicy,ethicalconsiderationsinappliedresearchandapplication,andspecificrolesofanthropologistsinappliedhealthinitiatives.AssignmentsandEvaluationYourgradeinthiscoursewillbebasedonpreparationforandparticipationinclass
4、discussions(25%),amidtermoralpresentation(35%),andatermpaper(40%).Therewillbenoexaminations.ClassParticipation:Asaseminar,preparedparticipationisacorefeatureofthecourse.Studentswillbeevaluatedfortheirfamiliaritywithrequiredreadings,theirleadershiponi
5、ndividuallyassignedreadings,andtheirgeneralclassparticipation.OralPresentation:Eachstudentwillprepare20minute(plustimeforquestions&answersfrominstructorandotherstudents)PowerPointfororalpresentationinclassformid-Marchonarelevanttopicoftheirchoice(app
6、rovedinadvancedbytheinstructor).Thisshouldfollowtheformatofaprofessionalconferencepresentation(andperhapswillbecomeone).Thetopicofthispresentationshouldbeanareaofdebateoruncertaininappliedmedicalanthropology(e.g.,culturalrelativismvs.application;thed
7、ebatesoverclinicmedicalanthropology,genitalsurgeries)inwhichalternativeandperhapsconflictperspectivesexistthatcanbecomparedandcontrasted(e.g.,theoriesinconflict,alternativeapproaches,ethicaluncertainties,includingdifferingperspectivesbetweenmedicalan
