3、lmaterialformybook.AftermyreleaseIvisitedtheMissouripenitentiary,andverifiedthestatementsofthosecriminals,andgatheredadditionalmaterialfromtheprisonrecordsandtheofficials.Ihavewrittenchieflyfortheyouthofthecountry,butallageswillbedeeplyinterestedinthefollowingpages.Alargemajorityoftheconvict
4、sareyoungmenfromsixteentotwenty-fiveyearsofage.Theyhadnoideaoftheterriblesufferingsofaconvictlife,ortheysurelywouldhaveresistedtemptationandkeptoutofcrime.Thefollowingpageswillimparttothereadersomeideaofwhathemayexpecttoendureincasehebecomesentangledinthemeshesofthelaw,andiscompelledtodoserv
