1、ChapterIIntroduction1IntroductionStylisticanalysishasalongtraditionandreputationinthefieldoflinguisticsandliteraturecriticism，playinganimportantroleinunderstandingandappreciationofliterature．Stylistics，inabroadsense，meansasubjectstudyingthefeaturesofallkindsoflanguage，withthepurposeofunderstanding

2、andusinglanguageappropriately；inanarrowsense，stylisticanalysisisanapproachwhichanalysesandevaluatesthelanguagefeaturesinallliterarygenres，namely,novel，essay,poetryanddramafromtheperspectiveoflinguistictheory．Suchapproachcanavoidthesubjectiveorimpressivejudgment，andthepurposeistoprovideamoreobjecti

3、veandthoroughexplorationandassessment．Inthisthesis，thenarrowsenseofstylisticswillbeused，tobespecific；andtheImagismPoetrywillbestudiedintensively．Currentlyspeaking，themainsystematic-functionalstylistics，cognitivestylisticstypesofstylisticanalysisincludeandsSOon．Indeed，cognitivestylisticsisnewinstyl

4、isticfield，whichisanimportantapproachinanalyzinglanguage，focusingonthepeople’Scognition，mind，thinkingprocessandtherelationandcorrespondencebetweenthemindandtherealworld，includesmanyaspects，amongwhich，iconicitytheoryisveryimportant，thustheapplicationoficonicityinliterarystylisticshasgreatfeasibilit

5、yandacademicvalue．Iconicitycanbedatedbacktoancienttimes，havingalonghistoryinphilosophyandlinguisticsbothathomeandabroad．Asanimportantlanguagefeature，iconicity,whichisoppositetoarbitrariness，meansthesignifierandthesignifiedarenottotallyarbitrary,butrelatedtosomeextent．Thatistosay,thereissomesimilar
