3、havecomeintofocus.Inspecific,dietaryinterventionsutilizingpolyunsaturatedfattyacidssuchasDocosahexanoicacid(DHA)havebookedpromisingresults.GiventhecloserelationbetweenADriskfactorsanddevelopmentandotherneurovasculardisorders,itishypothesizedthattheinfluenceofDHAe
4、nricheddietsworksprimarilybyimprovingcerebralbloodvesselhealth.Inthisexperiment,theinfluenceofputativedietssupplementedwitheitherDHAorcholesteroloncognitiveperformanceandcerebralperfusionareinvestigatedforboththeclassicalADmodel,APP/PS1mice,aswellasfortwomodelsof
5、vascularfactorsinAD,theApoE4andApoEKOmiceat10-12monthsofage.OurresultsshowthepredictedcognitiveimpairmentsofAPP/PS1andApoE4,butnotforApoEKOmice.Cerebralperfusionisfoundtobeimpairedinallthreetransgenicgenotypes,mostnotablyintheAPP/PS1andApoEKOmice.Noconsistenteffe
6、ctsofourdietaryinterventionarefound.FromthisweconcludethatApoE4andApoEKOmiceareavalidmodelforvascularADfactors.Wealsoconcludethattheeffectsofpreventivedietaryinterventionsarenotyetvisibleattheearlystagesofdiseaseprogression.IntroductionAlzheimer’sDiseaseAlzheimer
7、’sDisease(AD)isoneofthemostcommonneurodegenerativediseasesinwesternsociety.Anestimated15millionpeopleworldwidesufferfromADatthistime(Alz.Org.2009).Inthecomingdecades,increasesintheaveragelifeexpectancywillarguablyleadtoanevengreaterimpactofADonoursociety.Theincid
8、encerateofADintheUSwas411.000casesintheyear2000(Alz.Org.2009),afigurethatisestimatedtoincreaseto615.000intheyear2029.ADischaracterizedbyneuronaldysfunctionandn
