2、ningenvironmentsthatsupportanactivelearn-ingprocessandcreativeparticipation.Participatorymultimedialearningcanbedefinedaslearningwithsystemsthatenablelearnerstoproducepartofthelearningmaterialsthem-selves.Theaimofthemodelistorepresentthehumaninformationprocessingsystem

3、andtosupportthetransformationoffreecognitiveresourcesintoagermanecognitiveloadneededforknowledgeconstruction.Thepaperalsoelaboratesontheresultsofanempiricalstudyexaminingtheeffectivenessofstudent-generatedillustrations.Finnishelementaryschoolstu-dents(N=187)learnedabo

4、utthehumanimmunesystembyinteractingwithmultimedialearningmaterials.Studentsperformedbetteronaretentiontestwhentheygeneratedtheirownillustrationsbydrawingandwhenexplanationswerepresentedasanimations,comparedtostudentswhoreceivedonlytextualmaterialorgeneratedillustratio
