4、devotedtothemoregeneralaspectsofEuropeanhistoryinthesecondhalfoftheseventeenthcentury.TheyarefollowedbyninechaptersonthecountriesofwesternEurope—France,theUnitedProvinces,Britain,Spain,andPortugal—withtheirpossessionsinAmericaandAsiaandthecontactswhichexistedbetwee
5、nEuropeandothercontinents.Thefinaleightchaptersdescribethecountriesofcentral,south-eastern,north-easternandeasternEurope,aworldverydifferentfromthatoftheWestwheretradeandenterpriseweredevelopingfastduringthisperiod.Thevolumecoverstheyearsfrom1648to1688;butithasnota
