3、ineforcruiseflightorotherfixedconditions.Whileastaticsimulationoftheinletshapeisadequateformostcircumstances,thetestingrequirementsofmilitaryfightercraftaregreaterbecauseoftheirhighmaneuverability,afeaturethatisaccompaniedbyintenseandbriefalterationsofthea

4、irflow.Thesetransientdistortionscanhaveasignificantimpactonperformanceaswellashavingthepotentialofcausingstructuralproblems.Inadditiontoairflowfluctuationcausedbyflightmaneuvers,thelaunchingofweaponsintotheairstreamcanintroducetransientturbulenceandexhaust

5、gascontaminants.Currently,noneofthesetransienteffectsarefullyexaminedinwindtunnelgroundtests.Onesolutionthathasbeenproposedtosimulatethisproblemingoundtestfacilitiesisanarrayofindividuallycontrolledwedgesplacedinawindtunnelaheadofthetestengine.Thewedgescou

6、ldbeopenedandclosed,notonlytosimulatethegiveninletshape,butalso,togeneratetransientdistortions.Coupledwithasystemtointroducecontaminantsintotheflow,allmanneroftransientandstaticinletflowdistortionscouldbesimulatedinacontrolledenvironment.Thispaperfocuseson

7、implementingnumericalandanalyticalmodelstocapturethefreestreamturbulenceandflowdistortiondownstreamofvariableanglewedges.Thenumericalschemeinvolvesapplicationoftheshearstresstransportapproach(usingthek-ωturbulencemodel).TheanalyticalapproachisbasedonPrandt

8、l’smixinglengthhypothesisandGörtler’stechniquefortreatingfarwakeflowbehindabluffbody.Thenumericalandanalyticalsolutionsarecomparedtotheexperimentalmeasurements.ItisshownthatwhileafullblownCFDsimulationcanaidt
